Short answer
The family option on Mount Batur is the private sit-in jeep: nobody walks, children can sleep in the car on the way up, and the jeep carries only your family. A family of four pays Rp 3.000.000 in total, tax included, with hotel pickup, breakfast, the entrance fee, and insurance for ages 6–65 included. The sunset jeep is the same price.

Why families book the jeep, not the trek
The Batur summit trek is a two-hour climb in the dark on loose volcanic gravel, which rules out most young children and many grandparents. The jeep reaches a crater-rim viewpoint around 1,350 metres, facing Lake Batur and Mount Agung, without anyone having to walk.

- From three guests, sit-in and tracking cost the same, so the choice is only about walking. Families with young children usually take sit-in.

Which ages can join?
There is no hiking on the sit-in jeep, so age is about comfort and cover, not fitness. Insurance is included for every guest aged 6–65.

Sunrise or sunset with children
Sunrise is the classic view, but it means waking children around 02:00. Sunset avoids the alarm, takes less of the day, and costs the same.

Keeping children safe in the jeep
The volcanic tracks are bumpy: the ride is part of the fun, not a smooth road.
- Keep younger children seated inside while the jeep is moving
- Climb on the roof for photos only when the jeep is parked and the driver says it is fine
- Hold small hands on the lava field; the rock is sharp and uneven
- Child car seats are not listed as included. If you need one for the hotel car, ask on WhatsApp before you book
- The road up to Kintamani winds. If a child gets car-sick, bring what usually helps them
What to pack for kids
The viewpoint is far colder than the coast before dawn, and children feel it first.
- A blanket or warm layer, long trousers, and a beanie for each child
- Closed shoes for the lava field
- A snack: breakfast comes after the viewpoint, 4 hours or more after a sunrise pickup
- Wet wipes for black dust on hands and faces
- Swimwear and a dry change if you add a hot spring
