Short answer
Foreign visitors pay Rp 50.000 per person to enter the Kintamani tourism area around Mount Batur, and Indonesian visitors Rp 25.000. It is a real fee set by Bangli Regency under Regional Regulation 5 of 2023, collected at official posts on the Penelokan road with a receipt. On our private Batur jeep it is already in the price.

The Kintamani entrance fee is real
Mount Batur and the lake sit inside the Kintamani tourism area. Bangli Regency charges an entry fee under its Regional Regulation 5 of 2023, and has moved collection to an e-ticket so visitors get an official receipt. Videos of cars queuing at the posts have led some visitors to ask whether it is a scam. It is not.

Official fee or roadside charge?
The official fee is a fixed amount in rupiah, taken at a marked post on the main road into Kintamani, and you get a receipt. Be wary of anyone who stops your car somewhere else, asks for a “jeep fee” or “volcano fee” in dollars, or will not give a receipt.

Do not confuse it with the Bali tourist levy
Bali also charges foreign visitors a one-off tourist levy of Rp 150.000 per trip, paid through the official Love Bali system, not to a driver or tour company. It is separate from the Kintamani fee, and paying one does not cover the other.
What a Batur jeep price should include
Cheap Batur jeep listings often quote the jeep alone. Before you compare, check each line below. A low price that leaves out pickup from the south coast can end up costing more.

Other money you might spend up there
Hot springs charge their own entry; on our jeep you can add the Batur natural hot spring for Rp 150.000 per person or Toya Devasya for Rp 300.000, ticket included. Lunch is not included. Trekking to the summit is a different trip, guided by local trek guides, with its own price.
