Rafting on Bali’s biggest river: the Ayung near Ubud
Updated · By the Bali Activity Tours desk in Ubud
Short answer
Bali’s biggest river for rafting near Ubud is the Ayung — the island’s longest river at about 68.5 km from the Kintamani highlands to the Badung Strait near Sanur. Commercial white-water runs cover about 12 km of Class II–III jungle canyon, not the full length. Telaga Waja in east Bali has a longer raft stretch (~16 km) but a shorter overall river. This desk sells Ayung rafting only: Rp 450.000 per person (min 2), lunch and insurance included.
Why searches for Bali’s biggest rafting river point to the Ayung: longest river facts, commercial run length, vs Telaga Waja, and the IDR ticket we sell.

Is the Ayung Bali’s biggest river?
For length, yes: the Ayung (Tukad Ayung) is widely described as Bali’s longest river at about 68.5 km, rising near Kintamani and reaching the sea near Sanur. “Biggest” in guest searches usually means that iconic river — not the highest Class of rapid.
Commercial rafting uses only a mid-island canyon section west of Ubud: about 12 km and about 2 hours on the water, Class II–III, with waterfalls and carved stone along the gorge.

Ayung vs Telaga Waja (honest comparison)
Telaga Waja near Muncan, Karangasem, often runs about 16 km Class III–IV with a dam drop — a longer raft day and bigger water, farther from Ubud. The Ayung is the better fit for first-timers, families about age 7+, and same-day ATV combos (Sedang arena about 15 minutes away).
We do not sell Telaga Waja. Full river choice guide: Ayung or Telaga Waja.
